October 2006 Newsletter

Dear Lexington Toastmasters,

Now that we are all settled back into our fall routines, many cleaned up our gardens, or "put it to sleep" as my mother would call it, you may have closed all the windows and turned on the heat! The days are getting noticably shorter; all signs of Fall. At Toastmasters however, we manage to keep quite a buzz around our activities, our members and yes, our upcoming party!

Party - Saturday, Oct 14th at 7pm!
Not signed up yet, it is not too late! Call Kumiko Suzuki at 617-484-3720 home or 617-347-2673 cell. Join us for good food and good company!

"Speak-Outs"
The month of September was indeed a busy month for Toastmasters. We organized another "Speak-Out" where six members gave speeches. Our next event will be on Wednesday, November 29th at 7pm downstairs at Cary Library in Lexington. Sign up for a speech or help out with one of the tasks by emailing Duncan Stewart at f.duncan.stewart@gmail.com

Accolades
Mev Barton, our Sergeant at Arms, created "Name Card Tents" for everyone. This makes it easy to address all club members and guests appropriately and if you have been lingering for a while and may not know the new members, the name cards will help you. Thank you Mev for keeping up with this task; it makes the club very professional!

Accolades go to our five contestants who participated in our first Humorous Speech contest:

Robert Isenberg - Dilip Mathur - Rudi Scheiber-Kurtz -
Steve Silva - Duncan Stewart

The combination of contest and humor brought the speech delivery to a higher level of public speaking for most of us. Stay tuned for additional constests in the near future!

The winner, me!, went on competing against two other clubs early October and won that competition. I will be representing the club on Tuesday, October 24th in Westford for the next round of competition.

My speech is called "Zoomer Woman", a better definition of the boomer age! I hope some of you can attend this contest, not only for some good laughs, but also for assisting with the event as timer, judge and counter. Send David Carnes an email at david@opfocus.com if you are able!
